About me

hey I'm Leanna Jones I'm 36 and mum of two.

Being a mother of two and a home maker returning back to education, I have been faced with many obstacles which I've had to over come. Having a child with a life debilitating illness has tested me but strengthened my resilience. Along with suffering with a lack of confidence and anxiety, I have achieved my level 2 and level 3 qualifications in Hairdressing through Covid, whilst having to self isolate for 100 days alone with my children. These life challenges have given me the strength and focus to further myself through education, and in particular enrolling on a media makeup degree where i have developed further as a person, learning more skills and enhancing my creative skills and learning that I have a passion for wig making, prosthetics and SFX make-up.

Having enrolled on this course I have stepping outside my comfort zone to challenge myself. I have found myself to be resourceful, resilient, able to use my initiative, creative, inclusive, adaptive, a team player and a natural problem solver. I have displayed these qualities by taking part in an emergency services exercise involving all agencies. Creating SFX make-up on multiple actors to fit the casualty brief. That opportunity then led to myself leading a team of make-up students on another large scale multi agency emergency exercise doing multiple SFX makeup looks, on drama students to create a realistic scenario for the services to deal with. I have also worked on theatre productions including pantomime, working with an actor to create prosthetics for his character, Marley.

Being resourceful and using my initiative for future planning, I have visited multiple prosthetics events. This has aided me in overcoming my anxiety, advanced my knowledge as makeup artist, given me great insight into products and allowed me to network with current artists. Attending these events has given me the confidence to embrace the opportunity to work with a fellow makeup artist to show case my skills at The Prosthetics Event the premier prosthetics event in 2023. I will be taking part again this year where I will be working with another MUA, as a team, to enable us to combine our skill sets to complete the required look.

This can do attitude and improved confidence lead me to being named Student of the year in 2023. Receiving this acknowledgment has opened my eyes to what i can achieve and created great self belief that making wigs, prosthetics and SFX makeup is where my passion and future is.
